A4A Statement in Observance of Public Service Recognition Week
May 09, 2019
WASHINGTON, May 9, 2019 – In observance of Public Service Recognition Week, Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, would like to commend the tens of thousands of dedicated Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic controllers and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers who work day in and day out to keep air travel safe for everyone.
Here is a look at some of the important work that these public servants do every day to ensure that our aviation system remains the best and safest in the world:
- 14,000 air traffic controllers safely guide more than 43,000 flights per day.
- 48,000 Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) screen more than 2 million passengers per day at the nation’s airports.
- 23,000 Customs and Border Protection Officers (CBPOs) inspect cargo and screen passengers entering the country at more than 300 ports of entry, including airports.
They are a critical part of commercial aviation, and we thank them for their service!
