Airlines for America Launches “Travel Like a Star!” Countdown Campaign to REAL ID

Two months from today, travelers will be required to have a REAL ID or another acceptable form of identification to travel domestically

WASHINGTON, March 7, 2025 — Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization representing the leading passenger and cargo carriers, is announcing a new “Travel Like a Star!” countdown campaign to help the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) notify travelers about the fast-approaching May 7, 2025, deadline when REAL IDs or another acceptable form of identification will be required to fly within the United States. The campaign consists of a new “Travel Like a Star!” video, a REAL ID website and social media across multiple platforms.

About the campaign:

A4A‘s “Travel Like A Star” video will be amplified across our social media channels, showing travelers in a catchy simple way why it’s important to obtain a REAL ID. The video features a “star” traveler, prepared with a valid REAL ID before heading to the airport, clearing security and taking off on a trip.

The new website, REALIDReady.com, serves as a central location for up-to-date information about REAL ID requirements, including a map linking to each of the state’s websites showing where and how to obtain a REAL ID. The website also provides easy access to links to the TSA website where travelers can find answers to the most frequently asked questions.

The campaign will also utilize social media geo-targeting, aiming to reach key areas to increase REAL ID awareness and compliance. Messaging will be shared across all A4A social media channels, including X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

“With only two months away from the REAL ID enforcement date, A4A is helping to raise awareness so travelers know what to expect when they head to the airport and go through security checkpoints,” said Rebecca Spicer, Senior Vice President of Communications at A4A. “U.S. airlines are seeing record numbers of passengers traveling, with more than 2.7 million people flying each day. We want all travelers to have a smooth experience, and part of that is to be prepared with the right identification to comply with the new travel requirement.”

What’s changing?

Starting on May 7, 2025, the federal government will require any traveler 18 years and older to have a REAL ID or another acceptable form of identification to fly domestically. This security change is the result of the REAL ID Act of 2005, which set minimum standards and security enhancements for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification and prohibits federal agencies, like TSA, from accepting licenses or identification cards from states that do not meet these standards.

Because REAL ID driver’s licenses and identification have been available for some time, many travelers may already meet the new security standards. In most states, travelers will be able to tell if they are REAL ID compliant because the identification cards are marked with a star.
