Defenders of the Status Quo Offer Nothing But Misleading, False Allegations
WASHINGTON, Jan. 26, 2016 – Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, today issued the following statement regarding the formation of Americans Against Air :
“Modernizing AirControl is a critical step toward enhancing safety and making flying more dependable and efficient for consumers. Any one of the two million people who fly every day can tell you: Air Control is not as efficient as it could be. And yet another Inspector General’s report agrees and severely criticizes the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its lack of progress. Yet today’s announced coalition believes the status quo is just fine and it is arguing against positions NO ONE is taking. Proponents of reform advocate for a not-for-profit organization that will be overseen by the FAA and governed by a board inclusive of all stakeholders, including employee unions, general aviation and private fliers, and passengers. That’s the way air traffic services are run in most of the rest of the world. We want to see more air traffic controllers hired. We want to make the system even more safe. And most importantly, we want to make flying better for the traveling public. Members of Congress should want the same thing.”
Annually, commercial aviation helps drive $1.5 trillion in U.S. economic activity and more than 10 million U.S. jobs. Airlines for America (A4A) vigorously advocates on behalf of the American airline industry as a model of safety, customer service and environmental responsibility and as the indispensable network that drives our nation’s economy and global competitiveness.
A4A works collaboratively with the airlines, labor groups, Congress and the Administration to improve air travel for everyone.
