Let These Winter Travel Destinations Take Your Breath Away

The days are shorter, the nights are colder and it seems as if everyone has bundled up for a few long months of winter hibernation. But why stay in when the world is your oyster? Whether you’re ready to make the most of the snow and hit the slopes or find yourself a slice of paradise in tropical weather, the U.S. airlines can get you there!

Check out a few of our favorite winter destinations below and hop onboard with our members this season for a trip you’ll never forget!

Nashville, Tennessee

This winter, trade your snow boots for cowboy boots with a visit into Nashville International Airport with Alaska Airlines. Make your way downtown for a stop inside the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum, where you can take a peek inside Dolly Parton’s recording studio and take a photo with Elvis Presley’s solid gold Cadillac. Next, stop for lunch and try a delicious local delicacy—Nashville hot chicken, a spicy fried chicken that dates back to 1930. Walk off that lunch with a stroll down the “Honky Tonk Highway” on Lower Broadway, stopping in each little bar to take in the city’s incredible music scene. Wrap up the evening with even more music, at the iconic Grand Ole Opry.

Moving fast. #Nashville #MusicCity

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Touch down at snowy Jackson Hole Airport with American Airlines to explore a magical winter wonderland. Unpack your skis and catch the fresh morning powder on more than 100 trails ranging from beginner to expert. Grab lunch on top of the mountain to relax and take in the scenic views, all while watching fellow mountain-goers take on the terrain. Give your legs a break and spend the evening exploring Teton Village for shopping, hot espresso, après-ski bars and live music. Settle in for the night and watch the holiday fireworks light up the night sky over the mountains.

Savannah, Georgia

For a bit of southern sunshine, make sure to add Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport to your list this winter. Hop onboard with United Airlines and start your morning at the Savannah City Market, an open-air promenade full of local vendors selling clothes, art and food. Stop inside the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, a historic Catholic church built in 1799, to take in its unique architecture, Italian marble altar and its 81 ornate stained glass windows. Continue your walk to Forsyth Park, and be sure to snap a few photos under the Spanish moss hanging from the 300-year-old Candler Oak tree. Finish up the afternoon with a stroll along the Savannah River, where you can enjoy craft cocktails and fresh oysters while watching the Savannah Queen riverboat cruise off into the sunset.

New York, New York

Reserve your flight with JetBlue into John F. Kennedy International Airport for a taste of the Big Apple this season. Start your morning in Central Park, where you can grab a hot chocolate and rent skates at the Wollman Ice Skating Rink. Grab a hot lunch at a local deli and be sure to order a New York-style Pastrami sandwich for a taste of local flavors. Catch a Broadway matinee and take in the sights and sounds of these world class performances featuring some of the best performers in the world. Take the elevator to the top of the Empire State Building, taking in the city and sunset from the 360 degree observation deck. Finish your night at Madison Square Garden, where you can celebrity-spot and cheer on the New York Knicks to victory.

Maui, Hawaii

If you’re looking for a tropical getaway, Hawaii is your perfect destination! Escape the cold clutches of winter and fly straight into tropical paradise at Kahului Airport with Hawaiian Airlines. Soak up the sun and head to Kaanapali Beach where you can enjoy surfing, sandcastles and snorkeling. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of a humpback whale during the island’s peak whale watching season! Dry off and take a drive down the infamous Hana Highway, for views of lush green cliffs, waterfalls and sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. Catch the gorgeous island sunset while snacking on an authentic ahi poke bowl, filled with fresh cubed fish, sushi rice, green onion, ginger, shoyu sauce and a sprinkle of sesame. Top the night off with a Hula performance, celebrating the rich cultures, stories and traditions of the island.

Las Vegas, Nevada

For nonstop fun this winter, fly into McCarran International Airport on Southwest Airlines to try your luck in Viva Las Vegas. Walk down the Strip, stopping in the ornate hotels and for a photo op by the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign. Drive just 30 miles southeast for a glimpse of the Hoover Dam, a modern marvel that has provided power to Nevada, Arizona and California since 1935. Make your way back to the city lights just in time for dinner and an unforgettable performance by Cirque du Soleil. End the night at the Bellagio, for the breath-taking fountain show and a cocktail or two.
