WASHINGTON, Nov. 8, 2012 – Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, today commended Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for her efforts to combat wildlife trafficking and pledged its commitment to work cooperatively toward a global solution to the illegal trade issue.
The illegal global wildlife trade comprises a $7 billion to $10 billion industry, which hurts the global economy, and contributes to the spread of disease including SARS and avian flu to humans.
A4A members work cooperatively with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, law enforcement, cargo shippers and other authorities and do not tolerate illegal behavior aboard their aircraft. They expressed a commitment continuing that and to working with Sec. Clinton as part of a holistic solution to illegal trafficking of wildlife.
